To create a connection to a database server, select SQL database and click New….
In the connection creation form, you can select the Driver (the database driver).
You can create the connection in two ways:
- by entering the connection details such as Host, Port, Database name, User, and Password,
- or by using the Custom connection string field, where you can provide your own connection string.
A connection string is always used when connecting to a database. If no value is provided in the Custom connection string field, the system will generate a default one based on the entered connection details (option 1). If you fill in the Custom connection string field, it takes precedence and will be used when creating the database connection (option 2). This allows you to create custom database connections—for example, if you want to connect to SQL Server using domain authentication, use a connection string such as:
Server=DESKTOP-YOUR_SERVER\SQLEXPRESS;Database=YOUR_DATABASE_NAME;Trusted_Connection=True;
After defining the connection details, it’s time to test the connection. To do this, use the Connection test button. When you see the message below, the connection has been configured correctly and you can save it using the Save button.
