The OUTPUT FTP operator allows you to save data from the data bus into a file in a selected format and transfer that file to a remote FTP server. It operates on the input data stream—each record (or the entire dataset, depending on the format) is transformed into file content, and the resulting file is then uploaded to the specified location on the FTP server.
With this operator, you can:
- automatically export data to files and send them to external systems that receive data via the FTP protocol (e.g., ERP systems, data warehouses, public registries),
- dynamically generate file names (e.g., using the date, project parameters, or values from data bus bits),
- support integrations between organizations or system modules where data is exchanged through FTP directories.
The operator allows you to choose the output file format (e.g., CSV, XML, JSON, XLSX, binary file, text file) and fully configure the method of serialization and data formatting.
The operator’s behavior depends on the selected format:
- For standard file formats (e.g., CSV, JSON, XML, XLSX), the operator works on the entire data bus dataset, generating a single unified file.
- For Binary and Text formats, the operator works per individual data bus record, which enables generating multiple files (one per record) or creating dynamic content for each record.
The OUTPUT FTP operator is functionally equivalent to the OUTPUT FILE operator—the only difference is that after the file is created, it is not saved locally but automatically uploaded to the remote FTP server. This makes it an ideal tool for remote file-based integrations, automated reporting, or data distribution.
Example GRAVITY project using the OUTPUT FTP operator:
SELECTING AND CREATING AN FTP CONNECTION
Go to the FTP connection tab in the operator’s properties.
If you already have an existing connection, select it from the FTP Connection dropdown. The connection fields will populate automatically based on the chosen connection.
You can modify the connection details using the Edit button.
If you do not yet have an FTP connection defined in the system, you can create one by clicking Add.
After entering the new connection details, you can test it using Test connection and then save it in the system.
Once saved, the connection will be available under the name specified in the Name field.
